Workers' Rights

Building a Better Normal: Workers' Rights

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many workers faced layoffs, furloughs, and decreased hours. Now, with worker shortages and supply chain disruptions, workers report working longer hours and face greater stresses. This has led to new demands for higher wages and worker protections. What does this mean for the future of the labor movement and how can our community best respond?

On Thursday, November 11, Wake Up! with United Way explored “Workers’ Rights.” A panel of labor leaders including Derek Cronin, President of UAW Local 440, and Joe Varga, Labor Studies Professor at Indiana University, joined moderator Mark Fraley,  Associate Director of IU’s Political and Civic Engagement Program, to discuss workers’ rights during the pandemic.
