  • Be committed to sustained improvements in the local quality of life.

Our Commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Opposition to Discrimination

Equity is the intentional inclusion of everyone in society. Equity is achieved when systemic, institutional, and historical barriers based on race, gender, sexual orientation, and other identities are dismantled and no longer predict socioeconomic, education, and health outcomes.

In order to achieve equity, United Way of South Central Indiana strives to be a model of diversity and inclusion, with our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers reflecting the many faces, cultures, and walks of life that make up the communities we serve. We respect, value, and celebrate the unique attributes, characteristics, and perspectives that make each person who they are. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, housing status, or status as a veteran, and hold funded partners, staff, employment applicants, and volunteers to these standards.

We also believe that bringing diverse individuals together allows us to collectively and more effectively address the issues that face our communities. It is our aim, therefore, that our partners, strategies, and investments reflect these core values.

United Way of South Central Indiana also recognizes structural racism and other forms of oppression have contributed to persistent disparities which we seek to dismantle. Our entire United Way network strives to engage community members, especially those whose voices have traditionally been marginalized. We work with residents and public and private partners to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, support, opportunities, and networks they need to thrive. We commit to leveraging our assets — convening, strategic investments, awareness building, advocacy — to create more equitable communities.
