A welcome to babies & new moms!

Diaper wipes, handwritten notes, and baby blankets are more than just ingredients for baby welcome baskets. They also bring teams together and show our most vulnerable moms that the community cares about them. Recently Renée Petrina, an IU Campaign Team Captain, brought together the University Information Technology Services (UITS) crew to assemble baby baskets as part of their United Way campaign.

The baby baskets will go to first-time moms who are paired with the IU Health Nurse-Family Partnership.

“When I learned about the Nurse‐Family Partnership, I was so excited about the impact they’ve been able to make in such a short time,” explained Renée“I’m glad some of my coworkers were able to take time to show moms in our area how much this community is standing behind them.”

The event resulted in 20 baskets of supplies for mothers and newborns in the program. In its first year, the Nurse-Family Partnership has welcomed nearly 20 newborns. They are about to have a baby explosion in the next couple of months, so they expect to run out of baskets by January! The moms really love the handwritten cards from the volunteers, and for some mothers, this is the first gift they have ever received. The nurses have been surprised by the depth of the impact that little things like this have on these moms.
