Wake Up! with United Way: Building a Better Normal

As the region rebuilds from the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 Wake Up! with United Way season will focus on Building a Better Normal. Each month’s discussion will bring to light how to engage to create a brighter future that works for everyone in our community, including topics like homelessness, food security, and workers’ rights.  Plan to join us the second Thursday of each month (virtual until further notice) at 8 a.m.

"As we rebuild from the pandemic, we have an opportunity to rethink how, together, we address our challenges,” remarked Efrat Feferman, United Way of Monroe County Executive Director. “This series aims to dig a little deeper into the underlying issues contributing to poverty and economic insecurity, while also bringing to light innovative solutions and how we can best support rebuilding a better normal."

Workers' Rights
During the COVID-19 pandemic, many workers faced layoffs, furloughs, and decreased hours. Now, with worker shortages and supply chain disruptions, workers report working longer hours and face greater stresses. This has led to new demands for higher wages and worker protections. What does this mean for the future of the labor movement and how can our community best respond?

Join us on Thursday, November 11 at 8 a.m. for Wake Up! with United Way “Workers’ Rights.” A panel of labor leaders including Derek Cronin, President of UAW Local 440; Ray Hobbs, Business Manager of LiUNA Local 741; and Joe Varga, Labor Studies Professor at Indiana University will discuss workers’ rights during the pandemic.
