Other local initiatives benefit from United Way's skill and experience handling funds. Each year, we are audited by an independent public accounting firm and have earned the desired "unqualified opinion" regarding our financial statements.
We serve as the fiscal sponsor of these initiatives:
- Bank On Bloomington
- Community Organizations Active in Disaster for Monroe County
- Financial Stability Alliance for South Central Indiana
- Monroe Smart Start Birth-to-Five Coalition
- Nonprofit Alliance of Monroe County
And we provide fiscal support services at no charge to these events and organizations:
- Emergency Food and Shelter Program Local Board (a local group consisting of representatives of The American Red Cross, Catholic Charities, The Jewish Federations of North America, The National Council of the Churches, The Salvation Army; South Central Community Action Program, City of Bloomington and Monroe County governments, and United Way that distributes funds to organizations providing emergency food, shelter, and rent assistance)
- Interfaith Winter Shelter (a project of 21 faith communities, four of which serve as shelter sites, and several other organizations to provide overnight shelter for homeless individuals from October to April)
