In 2010, Monroe County was designated an ACHIEVE [Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE] community. At the time, we were the only Indiana location selected for ACHIEVE funding. United Way gladly joined the leadership team at the invitation of the Monroe County YMCA and the City of Bloomington.
ACHIEVE's goal is to ensure easy access to healthy, active lifestyles throughout the community: in our homes, at our schools, in our workplaces, and at our parks, trails, paths, and streets. Committees are currently implementing plans in five sectors: schools, worksites, healthcare, community institutions, and the community-at-large.
Based on ACHIEVE survey results, United Way is working with IU Health Bloomington Community Health and the Active Living Coalition on specific initiatives that will promote childhood nutrition. We are also developing ways to make nonprofit agencies healthier places for their employees and clients.
Would you like to help ensure our community members have their basic needs met?
Please consider donating to the United Way Essentials Priority Fund. This fund helps individuals and families meet basic needs with access to sufficient food, a stable place to live, low-cost health care, and the information and skills to manage crises.
