Indiana University Kicks Off Campaign

"United Way helps everyone be the best version of themselves. As a youth I needed the opportunities like United Way presents. We were stacked up against the odds. But you can rewrite someone's legacy by giving to United Way." With these passionate words, IU Head Wrestling Coach Angel Escobedo, kicked off the Indiana University fundraising campaign for United Way.

Contributions from IU employees, staff, and faculty are vital to the community and have a lasting positive impact.

Kirk White, Assistant Vice President for Strategic Partnerships and IU Campaign Manager, announced the goal of raising $830,000 and encouraged attendees to think about the far reach of IU in the community.

“Everyone who can give to United Way should give to United Way. It’s an amazing community effort that ties us together,” encouraged IU Provost and Executive Vice President Lauren Robel.
Campaign Co-Chair and Dean of the Kelley School of Business Idie Kesner highlighted the impact of donations, “When you read about what donors’ dollars do for our community, it makes you proud to be a contributor and a volunteer supporter. Moreover, there is ample research that shows helping others allows us to feel better about ourselves.”

Becky Rose, with member agency MCCSC School Assistance Fund, spoke about how gifts to United Way help local students. “The school assistance fund helps families and children have their basic needs met, so they are ready to learn. Meeting these basic needs improves school attendance, student self-esteem, ability to learn, and ultimately their likelihood to graduate from school.”
Highlighting the importance of the community coming together to support girls and youth, Amy Stark with member agency Girls Inc. shared, "Support for United Way is support for all member agencies and the many initiatives that bring lasting change to our community. These partnerships are essential in making sure our girls become strong, smart, and bold.”

Thanks to all of the Indiana University volunteers and supporters who give back to our community!
