June 29, 2021 Update
United Way of Monroe County and the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County are working together to shape a path toward ending regional housing insecurity and homelessness.
A broad coalition has come together to address the many components of achieving “functional zero” homelessness — a milestone showing a community has measurably ended homelessness for a population.
In the past few months, three sub-committees researched gaps and solutions. Their initial recommendations are being incorporated into the community’s updated Heading Home Plan. We are incredibly grateful for all the hardworking committee members and especially the co-chairs who were essential in leading this step of the process.
The Data and Dashboard committee reviewed existing information collection to identify what data service providers currently track and what is most significant to measuring progress. The Map and Gap committee reviewed services associated with proximal causes of housing insecurity and identified gaps in these services and housing. Finally, the Promising Practices committee identified holistic best practices for housing security in other communities.
The next step is to create a shared strategy for moving forward with sustainable infrastructure to support this work. We are convening a group of providers and advocates in the coming weeks to update this plan and inform our work.
