American Humanics, a
national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofits dedicated
to preparing the next generation of nonprofit sector leaders, has
named Bloomington resident and former IU student Erika Albert as the
AH Outstanding Alumni Award winner. Ms. Albert received her
award at the the American Humanics Management Institute (AHMI), held
January 4-7 in Indianapolis.
“As an undergraduate,
Erika was an outstanding student and a strong leader in the AH
Student Association,” said Peg Stice, Campus Executive Director of
the AH program at IU—Bloomington. “While working on a Master’s in
Public Administration, an anonymous donor was so impressed by Erika
that s/he created a Fund at the University Foundation in her honor
to support professional development opportunities for American
Humanics students.” Ms. Stice is also the former Executive Director
of United Way of Monroe County.
Ms. Albert currently is the Development Director for the Monroe County YMCA. She organized the AHMI 2009 Career EXPO, in which United Way of Monroe County agencies participated. Ms. Albert, Ms. Stice,
United Way Executive Director Barry Lessow, and several other
Bloomington nonprofit and IU leaders served on the host committee,
chaired by IU Foundation President Gene Tempel. United Way of
America is a national partner of American Humanics
Lessow remarked, “Erika
has truly earned this award through her dedication to American
Humanics and the Monroe County community. It is fitting that
she earned this at one of AH's most successful conferences less than
an hour from where she grew up and went to college. We are proud of
Erika for this achievement."
