Volunteer Opportunities

On April 8th, 2009, over 130 Day of Action volunteers made our community a better place to live by helping 15 nonprofit agencies. For the 14th time, participants volunteered for a wide variety of projects, including planting gardens, fixing trails, painting, doing yard work, and cleaning trash and graffiti. They also read to young children at two nonprofit agencies as part of United Way's Born Learning early childhood initiative. The projects made a positive impact on the community. Read more about Day of Action.

For other ways you can help, visit the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network Website for volunteer opportunities throughout Monroe County. CBVN is a service of the City of Bloomington's Community and Family Resources Department (CFRD).

CFRD also publishes several directories that contain useful information for families that want to volunteer together.
Indiana University students interested in community service have several resources available.  A good place to start is the Office for Student Organizations and Leadership Development.  Many individual IU schools and departments also have volunteer and service learning programs.  For those, visit the Office of Service-Learning site.
