Welcome to United Way of Monroe
County
At United Way, our mission is to improve
people's lives.
Working with 25 certified
member agencies and other partners, United Way
ensures that Monroe County residents have the
building
blocks for opportunity:
- education for life and career,
- earnings that allow people of all
ages and abilities to be self-sufficient, and.
- the essentials (access to food,
housing, health care, and emergency services)
We have special programs that
help us meet these objectives.
Born Learning will help us
ensure that children in our community enter school ready to
learn... just like our partners in the
Workforce Preparation Network are ensuring they
will leave school ready to earn.
Creating opportunities is a good reason
for everyone in this community to Live United... to give,
advocate and volunteer to help the causes you care about. When you
Take Action, you Create Opportunity.
Tell us how YOU Live United... and you might win a
Live United t-shirt!
Enjoy our site
and please call me at 334-8370 if you'd like to get involved
improving people's lives. Thanks!

Impact Facts:
In 2008, your donation ensured
that people in need saw opportunity:
- More than 5,500 area youth
participated in after-school programs, day care, education
opportunities, mentoring, therapy, advocacy, and other
organized activities. More than 935,000 meals were given to
local residents experiencing hunger... about 50% went to
children and 15% to seniors.
- Nearly 11,000 residents in
need were provided with medical services, equipment,
prescription assistance, screenings, and counseling enabling
them to maintain their health.
- The Community Kitchen Summer
Breakfast program delivered 11,766 breakfasts to children in
eight low-income neighborhoods and two youth-serving
programs.
- Nearly 500 families were
kept from homelessness because they received help with rent,
utilities, and legal assistance.
- 141 preschool children had
affordable, dependable care that allowed their parents to go
to work.
- 100% of the graduation-age
youth in two United Way-funded programs, Rhino’s and Girls
Inc. graduated high school.
- 5,044 nights of emergency
shelter were provided by Middle Way House to women and
children in the aftermath of traumatic violence.
- The American Red Cross
provided 32 individuals and families with emergency food,
shelter, and supplies to help them recover from residential
fires.
- 119 community members
learned how to respond in a disaster through American Red
Cross training.
- More than 750 families
received Born Learning materials filled with
researched-based parenting tips and ways to turn everyday
moments into learning experiences.
- Over 900 at-risk residents
were provided supports to maintain or gain employment. These
supports include resume and interview coaching, on-the-job
training, reliable affordable childcare, and legal
counseling.
- The Monroe County Long Term
Recovery Committee, a United Way program, assisted more than
400 individuals and families affected by the severe storms
and floods of 2008.
Take Action. Create
Opportunity. LIVE UNITED.
