This November, United Way is proud to announce four ways Monroe County is united to enhance community character. Thanks to the City of Bloomington for designating November as the month for our community to "Be United Bloomington". National Philanthropy Day On November 15th, United Way is partnering with the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County and the Greater Bloomington Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the proud tradition of giving in our community and thank all those who have given in the past. (read more) Born Learning United Way is partnering with the Family Resource Centers to launch Born Learning -- an early childhood education initiative -- during the WTIU For the Love of Kids conference on November 18th. Each day is a learning experience for children and Born Learning helps parents, grandparents, and caregivers explore ways to turn everyday moments into fun learning opportunities. (read more) 2-1-1 Get Connected. Get Answers. Area 10 Agency on Aging and United Way are partnering to bring 2-1-1 to Monroe and Owen counties on November 20th. 2-1-1 is an information and referral system connecting Hoosiers with needs to human services. Help is just a phone call away -- dial 2-1-1 from your phone and be connected with a specialist who can provide information and referrals to community services. (read more) Christmas with the Pops Food Drive In partnership with the Bloomington POPS Orchestra and the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, United Way is sponsoring a food drive to take place at the November 24th Holiday Concert. Kick-off your holiday season during the Canopy of Lights Ceremony on the Square and help feed those at risk of hunger in our community. (read more) Agency Bus Tour On November 29th, Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan and United Way Executive Director Barry Lessow will lead a group of community leaders, including County Commissioner President Joyce Poling and City Council Member Chris Sturbaum, on a tour of five United Way member agencies: Monroe County United Ministries, Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Monroe County United Ministries, Boys and Girls Club, and Stone Belt Arc. (photo) City Hall Display In recognition of its work, the City offered United Way an opportunity to create a historical display at City Hall. With the cooperation of the Mayor's staff and the Public Works Department, United Way led viewers through a snapshot of its 50 years of service to the Bloomington community.
