Who's Ready to Get Money Smart?

We're looking forward to Money Smart Week! Kicking off October 14th the Financial Stability Alliance and Monroe County Public Library will offer a week full of free activities and events that bring the community together around financial stability issues. Money Smart Week is part of a nation-wide public awareness campaign designed to help members of our community better manage their personal finances.

Money Smart Week kicks off with Monday Fun Day, including trivia, games, prizes and a wealth of information about community resources for financial stability. Festivities will run from 2:00 to 5:00pm in the second floor lobby of the Monroe County Public Library Main Branch.

On Tuesday, Pete the Planner will be giving a talk from 5:30 to 6:30pm at the Monroe County Public Library in room 1B/1C. Pete the Planner is an award-winning personal finance expert and comedian who provides a mix of sound financial advice and humor to his audiences. Whether you're finishing high school or college, you can graduate with a diploma in hand and money in your pocket! Let Pete the Planner help you navigate budgeting, planning, and preparing your financial future.

A Bank On Bloomington Workshop will be held at the South Central Community Action Program (1500 West 15th Street) from 6:00 to 7:30pm on Wednesday. This "Get on the Path to Financial Success" workshop will focus on basic banking and budgeting skills.

Two events are scheduled during the last day of Money Smart Week, Thursday, October 17th! The first is the Salvation Army Job Fair from 1:00-3:00pm located at their Community Center (111 N. Rogers).  This is a great chance for job-seekers to explore employment opportunities and make connections with area employers!

The second event on Thursday is Talk to an Expert in Room 2B at the Monroe County Public Library. This gives you the opportunity to meet one-on-one with a financial expert who provides free and unbiased advice about your specific questions. Please click here to sign up for an open slot! This is the only event that attendees must RSVP to in advance; all other events are walk-in.

We are very excited for this year's Money Smart Week and hope to see you there!
