United Way of Monroe County could use your help so it can help others in the community. The organization is in the midst of its annual fundraising campaign, which helps provide direct services to people of all ages and helps United Way bring together various people and groups to address pressing community problems.

This year’s campaign is called “Let’s Create a Better Tomorrow.” And that’s what United Way is all about as it focuses on three areas: helping children, youth and adults achieve their potential through education; helping people build their earnings; and making sure everyone has access to the essentials, such as food, housing, health care and help during a crisis.

An envelope is included with today’s Herald-Times to make it easy for you to help United Way help others.

Here are examples of how you can help.

• The equivalent of $1 per week will would provide two people with bus transportation to their job for a month.

• The equivalent of $2 per week would provide 70 bags of healthy groceries to low-income families. That same amount could prevent homelessness for two local families by helping them pay their utility bills.

• The equivalent of $3 a week would help 12 people get their needed prescription medication.

Of course, those are only suggestions. Donations of all sizes — larger or smaller than those outlined above — will help provide something of importance to someone in need. Or the funding will be instrumental in building programs, such as preschool classrooms, that will help create a better tomorrow.

Please use the envelope in today’s H-T to support United Way. Or if you’d prefer, you can donate online at www.monroeunitedway.org/givenow.
